Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about our hormone tests

Who is the test for?

Maybe Baby's test is for you if you want to understand your fertility better - whether you're curious, planning for the future, or just want to keep track of your hormones and health.

Can I take the test if I use hormonal contraception?

Yes, absolutely! You can take the test even if you use a hormonal IUD, birth control pills, or other hormonal contraception.
When you've ordered your test, you'll answer a number of questions about your health and any contraception you use. This information helps us tailor the analysis so you get the most relevant and accurate report possible.
Hormonal contraception affects the body's own hormone production, so we exclude three specific hormones that could otherwise give misleading results (FSH, LH, and prolactin). But you'll still get results for 9 out of 12 biomarkers that are important for understanding your body and fertility better.

Here are the markers included in the analysis if you use hormonal contraception:

  • Your ovarian reserve (AMH) - which indicates how many eggs are left
  • Your thyroid function (TSH, T3, T4) - which affects both energy and hormonal balance
  • Testosterone and DHEAS - androgens that can affect ovulation, skin, and cycle
  • SHBG - a protein that regulates how much of your sex hormones are active
  • Iron and ferritin - important markers for energy, blood count, and overall wellbeing

Testing even while using contraception can give you a clear picture of your overall hormone health. So even though some hormone values are affected, you'll still gain important knowledge about your body and how you're doing right now.
You can read more about all the markers we analyze under What we test.

Why should I test my hormones?

Whether you're thinking about having children now, later, or maybe not at all, Maybe Baby Home Test can give you valuable information about your body and health. It can be particularly helpful if you suspect a hormonal imbalance, have thyroid issues or PCOS - or if you simply want to understand how your hormones affect you and feel more confident about your choices and future.

How does an at-home hormone test work?

Maybe Baby Home Test works just like at a clinic - but you do it yourself in the comfort of your own home.

Here's how it works:

1. Tell us about your health — 10 questions about your health and lifestyle. On hormonal contraception? No problem, you indicate that here, and we tailor both the test and report to you.

2. Take the first step — Delivered to your door within 2-3 days. No waiting list, no clinic, no appointment.

3. Take the sample and send it in — A small finger prick, fill in the sample card, and send it to our accredited lab. The same analysis as at a clinic, but from home.

4. Get your results — Within 10 business days you'll receive your personal report. The same lab and reference values that healthcare uses, but explained so it actually makes sense.

5. Talk to a doctor — There's an option to book a separate consultation with a fertility doctor, digitally or in person.

Which markers do you test?

We test the same hormones typically offered by fertility clinics - up to 12 that have a significant impact on your hormone health and fertility.

Which hormones you test is based on the information from your health questionnaire. We tailor the test depending on whether you use hormonal contraception or not, so that your analysis is as relevant and accurate as possible.

Here are the markers included in the analysis:
  • Your egg reserve (AMH) - indicating how many eggs remain
  • Your thyroid function (TSH, T3, T4) - affecting both energy and hormonal balance
  • Testosterone and DHEAS - androgens that can affect ovulation, skin and cycle
  • SHBG - a protein that regulates how much of your sex hormones are active
  • Iron and ferritin - important markers for energy, blood count and overall wellbeing

Testing even if you use contraception can give you a clear picture of your overall hormone health. So even if some hormone values are affected, you still gain important knowledge about your body and how you feel right now.

Can Maybe Baby's test be compared to a fertility investigation?

A clinical fertility investigation can include several parts, such as blood tests and ultrasound. Maybe Baby Home Test measures the hormones that are typically the first step in such an investigation.

You get to check your hormones at home, at your own pace, without waiting rooms or hassle. And if you want to go further, the option is there, both digitally and in person. Through our selected partner clinics you can complement with, for example, ultrasound for a complete medical assessment.

Are your results reliable?

Yes! Your samples are analyzed in ISO 15189-accredited laboratories - the same quality standard used in healthcare.

Our capillary blood test has been validated against traditional venous blood tests in independent clinical studies. For the most important fertility and sex hormones, results show a correlation of 0.85–0.98. In practice, this means the test you take at home gives comparable results to a blood test taken at a clinic.

The test kit is CE-marked and meets EU requirements for medical devices. Analyses are performed using scientifically validated methods and interpreted according to clinical guidelines.

In short: medical quality, presented in a way that is clear and understandable.
